Writing is a way for me to express who I am and the pedagogical philosophies I believe in. Parker Palmer speaks to the importance of modeling self-exploration as a means to inspire your students.
The act of writing, like the act of teaching makes one vulnerable. Only if the teacher allows their vulnerabilities to be shown, can the student truly feel comfortable in the classroom and begin to explore the formation of their true self.



Auntie's Not Here, But...

This book is aimed for children aged 5-10 and is the first co-production between Maikala Harris and Lindsay Dodwell. Ilustrated by the emerging and talented artist Karissa Richards, this book aims to capture the imagination as well as create a high level of engagement from the reader.
Touching on the importance of a positive identity this self-published dual language text in English and Spanish is expected to be finished in at the end of 2016.
The central theme of this short story is to help children cope with the loss of extended family members. The protagonist is unable to be with her newborn nephew but instills messages of being true to one self and remembers that her nephew knows that, "Auntie's not here but loves you very much".
